The Cornersmith is a cafe based in Marrickville, Sydney. The Cornersmith cafe used to be an old thread shop, the interiors have been revamped creating a functional space as well as a welcoming atmosphere for its customers.
Owners Alex Elliot-Howery and James Grant believe in sustainable and ethical food production. All food served at the cafe is made from scratch using local ingredients, avoiding processed foods. The cafe also serves as a general store, utilising its shelf space for their own goods in jars and bottles as well as having several local food brands and locally grown green produce available.
The cafe quickly became successful and decided to open another shop up the road which is now the ‘Cornersmith Picklery’ where they host home food craft workshops including jamming, chutney making, cheesing plus many more.
The Cornersmith cafe is most definitely building a community in Sydney’s inner west , encouraging locals to give produce from their backyards, providing food craft workshops and also involving their local metal-maker who helped with crafting the cafes interior.
The menu changes once every month and the pickles and preserves change every week, keeping locals and visitors curious. The cafe doesn’t allow bookings so there is usually a bit of a wait for a table, however it is well worth the wait.
